Rick is the older brother by five years. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Marine. It's a combination of a protection and fear he has for his younger brother AJ. Now while he appears to be laid back, if he loses patience with AJ or anyone for that matter, he tends to get in your face marine style screaming and yelling in his military rhythm.
Rick gets excited over the gadgets he get from Surplus Sammy's, or contests that's are to good to be true. While he may forget to pay the bills in the detective agency because it's a month with no R's, he never allows himself to become unprofessional.
Rick Simon wears integrity like a badge, and he doesn't even look the part. He dons a cowboy hat and boots and is not concerned if his socks match, He drives a dented pickup truck and eats chili dogs and junk food.
Rick's idea of a great night is popping some popcorn, dressing in his safari outfit and watching monster movies. While he may not appear to be too savvy, he is "street smart", and he does have the connections that help when needed.
Undercover Rick has been everything from a "gnome" in a theme park to a DEA official (Ernie Boyer) He drinks tequila, lives on his boat in his brother's yard which he's always working on/fixing up, goes drinking with his friend Carlos, has a negative bank balance most of the time.
While Rick was never thought of as responsible or level headed, he does possess a unique quality of always being there to protect his brother, he loves his family and his dog Marlow, and is always there for his friends. As different as they are as brothers they still share that chemistry and that old saying of "blood is thicker than water."
AJ Simon: Private Investigator..."Level Headed"
A.J is the responsible half of the Simon brothers, and although he is the younger one, he is the level headed one who also has a head for business, which pretty much
leaves him running the detective agency he shares with his brother Rick.
Now while AJ can usually be seen in a suit and tie, he has often dressed in a more casual manner, but casual to him is maybe a nice crease in his khaki slacks or dress jeans. He has a very clean cut image, and the candy apple red Z28 Camaro he drives doesn't hurt his image either, but image is not what he's about, he just manages his money better than his brother.
AJ enjoys classical music and fine cuisine, and is pretty well known for his cooking up a nice romantic dinner. He also likes scuba diving and running. AJ was once engaged to his former boss'daughter Janet Fowler. The relationship faltered when they realised they wanted different things out of life.
One thing is certain and that is his devotion to his brother, he is the complete opposite of him and that sometimes makes for some fun moments, especiallly when it comes to the brotherly banter.
It seems Rick is always volunteering his brother, or his good sweater or something for information, and as angry as AJ gets with him, they always pull together. He is not as comfortable doing black bag jobs as his counterpart, but in the end, he always gives in and that's because he is trusting.
Marlowe
Rick's tried and true, ever faithful companion. Uncertain how long he's been by Rick's side. They share everything from ice cream to fleas.
The Simon's and LAW
Acting as separate investigation firms, S&S and LAW have been known to come together on cases that require that "special touch". It is when the individualized skills of Chris Larabee's attitude, Buck's ability to fix...rig anything mechanical, JD's computer and wiring skills, Nathan unimposing person, Ezra's undercover work, Vin's sharp eye and handiness with a weapon and Josiah's physical and mental strength meet up with Rick's street skills and unabashed flair for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and AJ's levelheadedness...it is when these are put together on the same case, that life gets interesting.
